I recently traveled to Europe for the first time. I bought Rick's Best Of books for Italy, Scotland and England. I have to say we found them invaluable! The maps, the tips, the suggestions on what to see, when to see it, how to see it, etc. I never failed in following Rick's advice! To be honest I was very, very happy with these books but I probably in the future will get the full books that he offers on a country. Meaning instead of buying the Best of Scotland I would buy Scotland. I know now it will just give more tips, more data on more places and that could only be better!I would highly recommend these guides for any traveler. They will be my go-to guides from now on!
Spent almost 3 weeks exploring Italy. Rick Steve's book was a great resource. In fact, in the Cinque Terre (Monterosso), I complimented the chef of a small restaurant and mentioned that Rick Steve's Italy book had led me to her restaurant and that it was the best meal I'd had in Italy. To my surprise, the other two couples sitting inside both spoke up and said that was why they were eating there - and one woman pulled out her book to show us!Highly recommend this book. Take it with you.If there was a negative...I wish it had included Sicily, too.
Full of great info. Unfortunately, the pages I needed most were misprinted, and so fuzzy they were difficult to read. Otherwise a great book full of useful info. Would be great if the sections were separated, so that the book could more easily be pulled apart - it’s a heavy book, so I’m only planning on taking the sections I need.
This was my best purchase while preparing to travel to Italy for the first time. I used this guidebook before, during and after my trip. The tips for preparing for a trip were invalueable. I was well prepared on what to expect when I got to Italy. The section on practacalities was spot on. While I was in Italy I kept my guidebook with me everywhere I went. It was a great reference. Once I got home I used the guidebook to help me label my pictures. A physically smaller book would have been a little more convienent but I was glad I had this book with me.
All of the major points of interest are covered and it includes many smaller towns that one might like to visit while traveling between the bigger cities.
Very difficult to read with Kindle. Can't get diagrams and maps to synch with text. Good information that's hard to navigate and access - disappointing.
Rick gives relevant information about places to visit in Italy and travel tips. Loved downloading his audio tours and following along at the sites we visited.
This book has great information. My fiance and I are going on our honeymoon to Italy in about 10 days and we've really found a lot of useful information in Rick Steve's book. There are details such as how much a museum admission costs, where to stay in whichever city you're visiting, walking tours, basic language guides, important phone numbers, etc. But the book isn't too thick or heavy so it will be easy to carry around. This will be a great tool for us to use on our trip!
