The title and cover instantly drew me to this, and when i found out the premise of a girl doing super villian grunt work i just had to have it. And let me tell you i'm so glad i took a chance on this. The writing is some of the funniest i've ever seen in a comic, downright Scott Pilgrim-ish in it's cleverness and imagination. I'd say 60 to 70% of the jokes hit, and of those many will have you audibly laughing.Yet it also has a strong moments in it. Bits of levity are intercut with hard truths and realities, and even moments of death and blood. Dont get me wrong this is a comedy through and through, and that i think helps those moments hit harder. Especially when it goes for the dark humor angle. The art has been compared to Scott Pilgrim as well (even a review on the back says so) and that is true, though it looks a bit more like Vera Brosgols "Anya's Ghost" (another comic you would probably like). Either way it's charming and really helps the comedyOverall this is a great read and well worth the money. It might be a little to graphic at times for younger audiences, but teens and adults will get a magnificent time out of it

Henchgirl is basically a one-woman show from Kristen Gudsnuk, who did the art and writing and originally published it as a web comic. This collection is well worth a read, not simply because it plays with a lot of genre tropes: the star is a low-level henchman (henchgirl, really) of what would normally be a D-list villain, the heroes are pretty self-centered and ineffectual outside of pounding on aliens, and a heart of gold turns into darkly evil for a time. That's all well and good, but there's a lot of touching moments between friends and some deep morality issues at play here, and if you don't mind it being explored in a somewhat slapstick world, there's quite a bit to unpack. It should be mentioned that there are some very clever, but very dark turns as the book progresses. Though I originally came to this hoping for lighthearted fun, I was almost put off by how gory and how depraved a few points get once our star, Mary Posa, is turned to evil against her will, and tries desperately to regain her morality but instead commits some pretty horrible acts. Ultimately, the exploration was worth it, and it never got quite as dark and depraved as something taken more seriously throughout could get, such as IRREDEEMABLE or something along those lines. It's not good for kids, but teens might find some of the angst pretty close to home, and adults already versed in comics will find a lot to like about the twisted tropes and the light-to-dark nature of some of the comics explorations.

Remember the line from The Incredibles that "when everyone's super, no one will be?" Henchgirl's world is one where almost everyone seems to have powers, but some people are still more super than others. The main character Mary Posa has super-strength, but that isn't special enough to warrant her own infamy beyond being a hench-person for a bigger-named villain. She takes a minor cut from heists, and is only able to afford splitting a ramshackle apartment by living with two other young women. One of her aspirations is to make enough money to be able to pay taxes. Y'know, like a real adult would.Henchgirl's surprisingly broad-reaching story explores themes of failed aspiration, excelling within mediocrity, seeking of absolution for one's sins, and the importance of friends appreciating you for who you are.

Very interesting. Arrived on time, great condition, I enjoyed the author's work.

I liked the beginning, but then got too Sci-fi. But I loved how it was realistic, modern day Superheroes and villians. I didn't like that she suddenly went back in time. Also, I didn't understand some parts. Overall, it was pretty good, and i want a second book.

Great illustrations and even better jokes!

This book had me laughing every page. It’s heartwarming hilarious and highly addictive. Those Who are somewhat familiar with Spanish will catch some extra meaning in the words.

This was an entertaining read, but there were times I wasn't entirely sure what was supposed to be going on. The concept at its core is great, but a little more clarity would have helped.
