This is a great book that every child should have the opportunity to hear and read. Younger children will need someone older to read it and explain the plot, but then enjoying books with a loving adult who takes the time to read to them is what forms the love of reading anyway so that's ok. The illustrations are simple, and the predictable text that goes along with the illustrations makes it a good book for emerging readers to enjoy. It also teaches some positional vocabulary and is entertaining . . . although I can't help feeling just a little bit sorry for the fox at the end. ;-)
Love this book in helping with position words
This is a simple, yet engaging book for emergent readers. Students learn positional words as they take a walk with Rosie. This book also shows that pictures often tell more of a story than the words. The fox is never mentioned in the text, but he plays an important role in the story. Students get very excited once they realize Rosie doesn't even know the fox is there. This book is great to build emergent readers' confidence as the students can read the pictures.
My daughter, 20 months, loves this book. She laughs out loud at the Fox and points out and names everything she sees. A short lovely book for new readers.
We raise chickens and this was my son's favorite book when he was little. The drawings are perfect little vintage pieces. The story teaches prepositions and captures the personality of chickens in a priceless manner. We always have at least one hen named Rosie in our flock.

Not interesting at all. Don't know why so many people give it a good rating.
My Kindergarten class did several projects with Rosie's Walk. We created an obstacle course in the classroom to learn the preposition words. We did a sequence math page. Each student made a Rosie using feathers and a cutout of a chicken. We learned a character lesson about consequences. Rosie was part of our Kindergarten class for over a week. She was a wonderful experience!
